Welcome to Washington
There are a few ways in which Washington wines are compared to French, and the main reason for these frequent comparisons is that Washington state shares the same latitude as some of France’s most iconic regions. 46° north of the equator, you’ll find Washington sitting parallel to the likes of Burgundy, Rhône and Bordeaux.
This means that Washington and France have similar climates, which is why you’ll find many Bordeaux and Rhône grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Syrah planted here.
In a Washington Merlot, for example, you’ll find fine tannins and a velvety texture that’s reminiscent of a Merlot blend from Bordeaux. While in a Washington Chardonnay or Riesling you’re likely to find high levels of acidity, much like you’d expect from a white wine produced in one of France’s cooler regions.
Intensely deep colour. The aromatics are rich and sweet with notes of pomegranate, plum, raspberry, baking spices, vanilla, bay leaf, and a hint of plumeria. Broad and elegant on the palate with cherry chocolate character, a silky-smooth mouthfeel, and a plush, lengthy finish. V 93
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot that spent 23 months in 50% new French oak. It offers a deep ruby/purple colour as well as a killer bouquet of crème de cassis, toasted spice, tobacco, and earth. Incredibly pure, full-bodied, and layered on the palate, it's a magical wine that has no hard edges, building tannins, and a gorgeous finish. It's the finest wine under this label to date.

Woodward began its artist series wines in 1992. he aromas start out leaning into the green, with notes of fresh garden herbs and savoury green pepper. Cherry and carob notes are there too. There's a lovely deftness to the palate. This is a pure rustic example of what Cabernet can be in Washington from one of the pioneers of winemaking in the state. WE 92+
Composed of all five of the primary Bordeaux varieties, this has aromas that dazzle, with notes of black currant, whole green pepper, flower, earth and dried herbs. Luscious, plump chocolate, cherry and raspberry flavors follow, showing texture and depth but also the grace of the vintage. A long finish caps it off. It's delicious.

Opaque with dark purple tears, the Syrah Boushey Vineyard Arnaut is dense with a black-fruited core and mineral essence, with a black peppercorn-spiced heart. With a balanced structure and elevated tannic backbone, the wine ends inky and black-fruited with a high-octane finish, presenting elevated alcohol. This Syrah is begging for a massive juicy, rare steak. WE 94
Beautiful fruit concentration with blackberries, blackcurrants, dark chocolate and red licorice. Encompassing and wide on the palate. Waves of plush, finely grained tannins come through, pushing the depth and unveiling dark fruit that is ripe and delicious. Salty undertones, too. Beautiful now.
